tmcgee.jpegDear College of Natural and Applied Sciences community,

I am pleased to share that Tara McGee will be joining the College of Natural and Applied Sciences leadership team as our associate dean, equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) on July 1, 2023.

This position is a key addition to the college leadership team and will lead academic matters and opportunities consistent with the strategic priorities of the college, faculties and university. Working closely with Carrie Smith in her role as vice-provost (equity, diversity and inclusion), Tara will ensure that institutional initiatives are implemented at the college in a way that supports the strategic direction of equity, diversity and inclusion in each of the faculties in CNAS and at the University of Alberta. This position will work for all three faculties leveraging the excellent work that has been done in each to date and will continue to engage with existing structures such as the Faculty of Science EDI Committee.

Tara joins the college from the Faculty of Science, where she has served as associate dean (engagement and EDI) since spring 2020. Tara is a professor in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. I know that Tara looks forward to getting to know you and to understanding your EDI priorities across our faculties in this new role.

“I have enjoyed working with colleagues in ALES and Engineering, as well as in the Faculty of Science, over the past three years as associate dean (engagement and EDI) in the Faculty of Science,” says Tara. “I look forward to advancing EDI priorities in the three CNAS faculties in this new role.”

Please join me in welcoming Tara to the college and to each of your faculties.

As always, I welcome you to connect with me at Mornings with Matina or by writing to deancnas@ualberta.ca. I look forward to connecting with you soon.

Sincerely,

Matina Kalcounis-Rueppell
Dean and Vice-Provost, College of Natural and Applied Sciences
