08 April 2019

The Prince Takamado Japan Centre for Teaching and Research is happy to present the public lecture by Dr. Olenka Bilash, Honorary Consul General of Japan on April 24, 2019 at University of Alberta, Calgary Centre.

Cultural differences as revealed through team teaching in English education in Japan:

Have you ever taught in the JET program? Or know someone who did? Was it a "fantastic" experience? Did you fall in love with Japan and Japanese culture? Did you make a difference in the education system? Did you look forward to going to work each day? Within these questions lies a common conundrum: many foreigners engaged in teaching English learn much about Japan and truly embrace the culture, experience, people and even language. However, fewer feel like they made a contribution to English education in schools, i.e. the job for which they receive remuneration. This presentation reveals some of the issues and strategies used to overcome them.

All are welcome!
