The Situated Knowledges: Indigenous Peoples and Place Signature Area invites you to attend Community Voices: “Working Together with Indigenous Youth Researchers in Northern Ontario'' a converstation with Sheila Wahsquonaikezhik and Dr. Fiona Nicoll on Thursday November 4th from 10:00am - 11:00am MDT using the Zoom Platform.
Sheila Wahsquonaikezhik is the director of Indige-Spheres to Empowerment, a federally incorporated charitable non-profit organization dedicated to the health and well-being of indigenous peoples. She runs workshops with Indigenous youth and others targeted by human and sex trafficking as well as facilitating new approaches to research on gambling and videogaming. Critical Gambling Studies features a recent interview with Sheila and Darrel Manitowabi.
Dr. Fiona Nicoll is a Professor in the Political Science Department at the University of Alberta and former Alberta Gambling Research Institute Chair and Current KULE Scholar. She was invited in 2018 to work with Indige-Spheres to Empowerment on a youth-led and youth-driven project on Indigenous gambling and videogaming in Northern Ontario.
