Professor Emeritus Baha Abu-Laban has been appointed as a Member of the Order of Canada for his "contributions as a scholar and volunteer building a more inclusive society." Dr. Abu-Laban is a former department Chair and Associate Vice-President, an early and leading Canadian scholar in the area of race and ethnic studies / immigration, and an organizational leader who played important roles in many important multicultural organizations. He was the founding Director of thePrairie Metropolis Centre for Research on Immigration, Integration and Diversity, a research network that organized and sponsored immigration-related research across the prairie provinces for many years. http://www.gg.ca/document.aspx?id=15482
