Shared Services welcomes new Talent Acquisition team members

31 January 2024

As part of the university’s ongoing commitment to enhance administrative processes and support hiring managers, we are delighted to announce the expansion of our Talent Acquisition team to include four new Recruitment Associates.

These dedicated professionals will provide recruitment services to participating faculties, departments, and units in the Recruitment Pilot—a 12-month initiative under the Continual Administrative Service Improvement Program (CASIP)—with the goal of reducing the administrative burden on hiring managers.

Meet the Recruitment Associates

Since then, she joined the Government of Alberta as an HR Administrator, laying a strong foundation for her to progress into Recruitment Consultant and HR Business Partner roles. Her practical approach to recruitment emphasizes clear communication and strong relationship-building, ensuring a well-aligned match between candidates and organizational needs.
  • Fiona Zhao is an HR professional with a Master's in Business Administration, focusing on Leadership and Change Management. As a recruiter at Randstad Technologies, she specialized in full-cycle IT recruitment, emphasizing cultural alignment and relationship development. Her collaborative nature and proficiency in diverse sourcing methods make her a valuable asset to the University of Alberta’s talent acquisition efforts.
  • Garry Liao’s HR journey has been shaped by a mix of academia and practical experience. An HR generalist with a passion for blending business with people, he completed his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (minor: Sociology) as well as a Bachelor of Commerce in HR Management. He brings expertise in start up companies’ full-cycle recruitment and leveraging innovative technologies to enhance HR processes.
  • Jayna Welch holds a wealth of talent acquisition expertise, which she cultivated at NorQuest College where she managed comprehensive recruitment strategies across various faculties. Her dedication to equity, diversity, and inclusion, intertwined with her analytical and process improvement skills, makes her a dynamic addition to the team. She holds a Business Administration Diploma, specializing in Human Resources.

What recruitment services are available?

Shared Services already offers a suite of standard recruitment services to all hiring managers including recall and duty to accommodate checks, posting a job, creating a recruitment folder, screening initial applicants, immigration consultation, administering skills testing, and conducting online reference checks.

As part of the Recruitment Pilot, we’re also introducing the following enhanced services for pilot participants (in addition to the standard services): drafting a job posting, shortlisting candidates, developing an interview plan, participating in the interview panel, conducting phone or online reference checks and assisting with pre-hire support (for new employees only) to provide end to end recruitment support. Learnings from the pilot will help refine processes for the benefit of the broader community and develop process and system requirements for the future recruitment solution.

Questions?  Hiring managers can contact the Staff Service Centre for support.

What’s next?

Stay tuned for more news in the coming weeks about the Recruitment Pilot and how we are enhancing our recruitment practices to better serve our community and make the experience more efficient and effective for hiring managers.
