Overview
The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program at RWTH Aachen University offers undergraduate students the chance to conduct their own research project. Students will obtain research experience and participate in German language training and workshops on intercultural and research-related issues.

Eligibility Requirements
- Undergraduate student status at the time of application
- GPA of 3.2 or higher
- Student of a North American university with US or Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status
- Submission of letter of recommendation from supervisor at home university, resume, letter of motivation, academic transcript and a document confirming current and future enrolment
Language of Instruction
Primarily English; however, German language training is provided by RWTH Aachen to UROP participants free of charge.
Funding
RWTH Aachen provides selected UAlberta students with scholarships of €1,850 to cover basic living expenses during your stay.
UAlberta students are also encourage to apply for the Education Abroad Individual Award.

Program participants will be enrolled as RWTH Aachen University students in order to benefit from a state-wide rail and bus ticket and numerous other student services. The cost of enrolment is €245 per semester. Otherwise the program is free of charge. You will only need to cover your travel, insurance and living expenses.
Housing
UROP participants will be assigned a room a student dorm for the entire duration of the program. Should you prefer a different type of accommodation, you may arrange this independently of course. Rent for a student dorm room usually ranges between 300 and 500 euros a month and can be covered by the scholarship. Additionally, you will be asked to pay a deposit of two months of rent, which will be reimbursed when you move out provided that you leave the room in good condition.
US or Canadian citizens usually do not need to apply for a visa if their stay in Germany does not exceed 90 days. If you wish to stay longer than that, you can have your residence permit extended at the RWTH Branch of the Immigration Office while in Germany
