Call for Proposals: 2024 Convocation Art Print

Give graduating students the gift of art

Each year, the University of Alberta Alumni Association commissions an original piece of art as a gift to graduating students to congratulate them on their convocation. This exclusive gift welcomes them to the alumni community, celebrates graduation and serves as a lasting reminder of the student's time on campus and their ongoing relationship with the university.

Calling all artists! Show the Class of 2024 YOUR creativity!

Alumni and students are invited to combine their love of art with their passion for the university by submitting a proposal for an original art piece to be gifted to students graduating in 2024. Whether you graduated from Fine Arts or Engineering, we want to hear how you'd artistically depict the joy of becoming a University of Alberta graduate!

Commission amount: $2,500 (incl GST)

Deadline for submissions: 4:30 p.m. (MST) on Monday, Oct. 30, 2023

Successful artist(s) will be notified by: 4:30 p.m. (MST) on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023

Deadline for final production: 4:30 p.m. (MST) on Wednesday, March 27, 2024

ARTWORK PARAMETERS

The artist must guarantee the artwork is original and does not violate the copyright of any other person.

The piece must be 16” x 20” and be inspired by or reflective of one's time at the University of Alberta and/or its heritage, traditions, or values (note that the University Crest and images of GUBA or Patches are copyrighted materials and should therefore not be used) and/or the joy of becoming an alumnus.

The artwork is limited to the following two-dimensional mediums and must be submitted on canvas or paper:

Drawing
Electronic/Digital Art
Painting
Photography
Printmaking

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must be either current University of Alberta students or U of A Alumni.

Contract: The selected artist will be required to sign a commission contract with the University of Alberta Alumni Association

Copyright: Upon delivery of the artwork it becomes the property of the University of Alberta Alumni Association. The client may reproduce the otherwise unaltered image at any size smaller than the original at their discretion, provided that the artist is properly credited in this format: Artwork title, Artist’s Name, 2024. The artist retains copyright of the image as the creator.
