All 22 members of St. Joseph’s College Men’s Residence, including the five individuals who tested positive, are now fully recovered and/or have completed their required self-isolation periods. There were no additional cases associated with the outbreak.

On September 20, Alberta Health Services notified the University of Alberta that five members of our campus community tested positive for COVID-19. The outbreak was based within the Men’s Residence of St. Joseph’s College on North Campus. As a result of the outbreak, the remaining residents also self-isolated pending testing, and varsity athletics activities were temporarily suspended. Athletics activities have since recommenced with enhanced safety measures.

The University’s comprehensive rapid response plan provides step-by-step advice on what to do if you feel sick. The plan also explains when and how you will be informed should you be impacted by a positive COVID-19 case in our campus community.

Thank you for your ongoing support of one another throughout the adjustments within this pandemic. Please continue to use the COVID-19 Alberta Health Daily Checklist before you head to campus. And, remember: If you’re feeling sick, stay home, notify your supervisor or instructor, and follow Alberta Health Services advice.

Following Alberta’s public health notification protocols, outbreaks are reported publicly when there are five or more cases. St. Joseph’s College Men’s Residence will remain on Alberta’s public listing of facilities affected by an outbreak until four weeks have passed without a confirmed case of transmission.
