June 15 COVID-19 Update

15 June 2022

Today (June 15), the province of Alberta moved into the final stage of lifting COVID-19 public health measures. This change sees masking on public transit and isolation practices transition to be recommended measures. In alignment with this change, the university’s remaining Safety Measures General Directives are being suspended and replaced with recommended measures to assist individuals with their COVID-19 decisions while on U of A campuses.

The following safety measures continue to be strongly recommended and are encouraged for members of the university community to limit transmission of COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses:

  • Getting vaccinated for COVID-19 and keeping your vaccinations up to date.
  • Monitoring your personal health on a daily basis and staying home when you're unwell. If you experience COVID-19 symptoms or test positive it is strongly recommended that you remain home; advise your supervisor or instructor of any absence and make alternate arrangements as needed.
  • Wearing a mask in high-traffic and high-capacity areas. Masks will continue to be available on U of A campuses. Note: Individuals working in and/or visiting clinical health care settings on campus should verify masking requirements before they visit.
  • Washing your hands frequently, using hand sanitizer and practising good cough/sneeze etiquette.
  • Planning events and gatherings with appropriate public health measures in mind for group settings.
  • Keeping your work, study or living spaces clean.

The Public Health Response Team will continue to monitor the progress of COVID-19 and will adjust its measures in accordance with requirements and advice from public health authorities as needed. We will continue to operate and maintain building ventilation systems to ensure they provide for occupant comfort and safety.

Many of the lessons of the past few years continue to be valuable and will drive how we each make personal decisions to prevent the transmission of the COVID-19 virus. With this in mind, university community members are asked to respect the personal health decisions of those around them.
