Contact tracing on U of A campuses

18 November 2020

Cases of COVID-19 are currently rising rapidly in Alberta. As a result, both Alberta Health Services (AHS) and the University of Alberta have recently updated their contact tracing processes. Accurate and timely contact tracing is crucial in stopping the spread of COVID-19 in our communities and on our campuses. The U of A’s comprehensive COVID-19 Rapid Response Plan is our emergency procedure to respond to and mitigate COVID-19 on our campuses. Every member of our community on campus this year has a role to play in ensuring its success.

As an on-campus community member

If you have tested positive for COVID-19 or are legally required to isolate AND have been on campus in the last 14 days, contact your supervisor, instructor or activity coordinator as soon as possible. See procedures for sick employees or students.

As a supervisor, instructor or activity coordinator of on-campus activities

If one of your staff, students or participants inform you that they have tested positive for COVID-19 or are legally required to isolate AND have been on campus in the last 14 days, contact the U of A Rapid Response Triage Team as soon as possible. Email your name and the phone number where you can be reached to phrt.triage@ualberta.ca. A triage member will contact you shortly.

How you will be notified

If you are working on campus, participating in in-person classes or are part of an organized university activity (any kind of on-campus recreational or social activity) and you are identified as having been exposed to COVID-19, you will be notified as soon as possible via your ualberta.ca email address (students and employees), or the email address you provided when registering as an external participant. U of A instructors, supervisors, and campus activity coordinators work with the U of A Rapid Response Triage Team and AHS to issue a notification as soon as possible.

Tips for being prepared

  • Check your ualberta.ca inbox regularly.
  • Know how to best contact your supervisor or instructor in a timely fashion.
  • Use here.ualberta.ca to check in and out of campus at each visit.
  • Bookmark uab.ca/triage for a quick reference to all rapid response protocols and resources.
  • Visit uab.ca/covid19 regularly for updated information affecting the U of A campus community.

Thank you for the extra public health steps that you continue to take on a daily basis. They keep you and our community safe. Together, we will minimize risks to our community and interruptions to our campus activities.
