Province eases outdoor gathering and personal service restrictions; no significant U of A changes

Alberta Health Minister Tyler Shando announced yesterday that effective Monday, January 18, some provincewide restrictions will be eased. Personal and wellness services — such as salon and reflexology services — will also be allowed to open by appointment only. While outdoor social gatherings will now be allowed up to 10 people, indoor gatherings remain prohibited provincewide. The changes announced yesterday do not significantly affect current university restrictions. Temporary enhanced safety measures remain in effect on all U of A campuses.

Are you Here@UAlberta?

Log in to Here@UAlberta every time you visit campus to record the locations where you spend time on campus. This campus check-in tool is simple to use, your information is secure, and it’s the best way to ensure you are notified of a possible exposure to COVID-19 while on campus. If you aren’t using it yet, try it now.

Tracking COVID-19 on our campuses

To keep our community informed, the U of A has a dedicated webpage to share the number of on-campus community members who have reported a positive COVID-19 test during the last six weeks. Among other factors, the information shows the impact that enhanced safety measures and reduced people on our campuses have had for our on-campus community over the past month. Thank you for doing your part.

Reminder: Required 10-minute campus safety course for Winter 2021 in-person community

Students participating in in-person learning or research activities on campus during the winter term need to take the eCourse Student Life During COVID-19. Once completed, please submit your course completion certificate to your instructor(s)/supervisor(s).

Instructors and staff who will be on campus during the Winter 2021 term also need to complete a similar campus safety eCourse before returning to campus. A short refresher version is also available for faculty and staff who previously completed the full course in Fall 2020.

Reminder: Masks are mandatory on campus

Face masks are mandatory on all campuses. You must wear your mask in all indoor common spaces, classrooms, labs and meeting rooms. Exceptions and staff, faculty and student accommodation procedures can be viewed on this Safety Measures General Directives webpage.
