Masks are recommended, not required as of March 16

The U of A community continues to respond to COVID-19 and updated guidance from public health experts and authorities. On March 1, the Government of Alberta removed the masking requirement and this past week, on March 8, the City of Edmonton repealed its masking bylaw. Therefore, U of A campuses will join other Edmonton and Alberta institutions and facilities in suspending our mandatory masking policy, starting Wednesday, March 16. We strongly recommend that you continue to wear masks in high-traffic or high-capacity spaces, and in other areas where you are in close proximity to others. We also ask that U of A students, faculty, staff and visitors respect the choices of others in our community regarding masking as we transition into this next phase together.

Travel Directive update

Effective February 28, Global Affairs Canada (GAC) has removed the global level 3 travel advisory and the U of A suspended its Travel Directive. Travel approval for faculty, staff and students, including assessing and mitigating the risk of travel, will be managed by the University’s existing Off Campus Activity and Travel Policy (OCAT Policy).

Triage self-report form for sick students and employees

If you're required to isolate or have received a positive PCR or Rapid Antigen test, please advise your supervisor or instructor immediately and fill out the COVID-19 Triage self-report form on the MyUAlberta app or the website for the appropriate campus:

Two years since WHO declared COVID-19 a pandemic

Exactly two years ago, on March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 to be a pandemic. It has been a challenging two years for everyone. Thank you for your patience as we navigated changing safety measures, and for taking actions that have contributed to keeping the U of A community safe.

COVID-19 Digests: A change in pace

As we see face-to-face gatherings picking up and community restrictions and public health changes slowing down, there is no longer a need for a regularly distributed COVID-19 digest of information. Starting today, this COVID-19 digest will be distributed as needed when updates are available. Information and updates will continue to be readily available at uab.ca/covid19.
