Congratulations to Dr. Andrzej Weber and the Baikal Archaeology Project team for receiving a third MCRI award from SSHRC! The Baikal Archaeology Project has spent the past ten years studying the long-term trajectories of Holocene (c. 10,000-present) culture change across the Baikal region of Siberia. This new grant will allow the multi-disciplinary team to advance a comparative perspective focusing on the Baikal region of Siberia and Hokkaido Island in northern Japan to document cyclical patterns of culture change and social complexity with results relevant across a broad geographical range. Please see http://baikal.arts.ualberta.ca/ for more information as it gradually becomes linked to the new Baikal Hokkaido Archaeology Project page during the early months of 2011.
