Board + Digital Games Den

Campus & Community Recreation offers two unique gaming spaces located in the Van Vliet Centre at the University of Alberta. Whether you're planning a student event, team-building session, youth camp activity, or corporate wellness break, our Board Game Den and Digital Games Den provide engaging, tech-supported environments for a variety of play styles—from tabletop and board games to console and PC gaming.

Features

Digital Games Den (VVC 1-225):

Programs & Services

Participants have subsidized access to our Board Game Den and Digital Games Den through a variety of programs and services for the Fall and Winter academic terms.

Costs

  • Digital Game Den | $120.00/hour
    • Includes facility rental and one required staff member.
  • Board Game Den | $120.00/hour
    • Includes facility rental and one required staff member.
  • Digital Game Den + Board Game Den | $190.00/hour
    • Includes both gaming spaces and two required staff members.

Note* Additional staffing may be required for larger groups and is charged at $20.00/hour per staff member.

Discounts:

Eligible University of Alberta groups may qualify for reduced space rental rates. Staff fees are always charged at the full rate.

Capacity

  • The Board Game Den has seats for 12 participants within the den, but our overflow area across the hall (1-613) allows for accommodation of up to 50 participants total. 

  • The Digital Game Den has seats for 12 participants within the den and has a capacity of 16 people, but our overflow area may be used to accommodate up to 50 participants total.

Includes:

  • Exclusive use of your reserved gaming space(s)
  • Access to gaming equipment and game library
  • Required Gaming Programs staff support
  • Set-up and take-down assistance
  • Overflow room (when required)

Availability

  • A minimum of 2 weeks notice is required when requesting a booking — urgent requests may be considered on a case-by-case basis
  • Parking is not included in your booking
