Youth field trips

Campus & Community Recreation’s Youth ActiveU is a field trip program designed for elementary, middle school, and high school students. It’s a great way for these age groups to get active and expose them to the University of Alberta. Our ActiveU programs meet Alberta's physical education curriculum requirements! Being active means health benefits for a lifetime!

Age groups range from elementary to high school-aged students (6-17 years old). Groups are paired together based on age group range. We have a variety of different options to choose from with our ActiveU programs to suit your age group needs.

Activity Offerings

Regular

Activities that do not require additional staff with certifications to run the activity

  • Gym / Field Activities
    • Indoor and Outdoor Team Sports - volleyball, basketball, ball hockey, dodgeball, flag football, spikeball, etc.
    • Adapted Physical Activities - goalball, etc
    • Physical Literacy Games - tag, parachute games, bean bag games, obstacle course, relays, sportball, etc.
    • Indoor and Outdoor Sports and Games - scavenger hunts, track & field, etc.
    • Racquet Courts - squash and wallyball

Speciality

  • Instructor-Led
    • Fitness Classes - yoga, zumba, spin, etc.
    • Dance Classes - k-pop, hip hop, etc.
    • Martial Arts Classes - kickboxing, taekwondo, etc.
  • Wellness Education
    • Lecture Programs - nutrition, hydration, exercise, physical and mental health, etc.
    • Food Activities - healthy snack creation, etc.
    • Arts & Crafts - beading, learn to paint, etc.
  • Facility-Specific
    • Wilson Climbing Centre
    • Aquatics

Activities may vary depending on facility, equipment, and staff availability. ActiveU is offered on North Campus in the Van Vliet Complex (and surrounding spaces).

We offer Half Day or Full Day packages as part of our ActiveU programs:

Pricing Parameters

  • Group minimum is 15 youth participants.
  • Groups with 51-99 youth participants will receive a 10% discount on their invoice.
  • Groups with 100+ will receive a 15% discount on their invoice.

Teachers are responsible for the overall supervision of the groups. One teacher must be with all groups at all times. Parent volunteers are welcome but do not “count” as a teacher.

Timelines

  1. Request Submitted | Booking Started - 6 weeks before Event Day
  2. Set-Up Communications - 2 week window
  3. Booking Confirmation - 4 weeks before Event Day
  4. Quote Confirmed - 3 weeks before Event Day
  5. Schedule Confirmed - 2 weeks before Event Day
  6. Waivers Received - 1 week before Event Day
  7. EVENT DAY - groups to arrive 30 minutes before start of event
  8. Invoice Sent - on Event Day
  9. Invoice Payment Deadline - 1 week after Event Day

Youth Camps

Campus & Community Recreation's ActiveU program is offering recreation-based activity camps for ages 6-11. This camp is about taking a positive approach towards learning new skills. We lead your camper through sports, games and interactive crafts that encourage active lifestyles and uplift social interactions.

Your camper will enjoy activities such as* (*weekly activities subject to change):

  • Racquet sports (badminton & pickleball)
  • Floor hockey and floor curling
  • Board and digital games
  • Throw and catch (scoops, frisbees, dodgeball)
  • Immersive arts, crafts and games
  • Indoor-focused activities (e.g., tag, capture the flag, etc.)
  • climbing wall

Camp Information

  • Camp Schedule
    • Drop Off Period | 8:15 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.
    • Camp Activities | 8:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
    • Pick Up Period | 4:15 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
