A large, multi-stemmed poplar tree on North Campus has been scheduled for removal. The tree is showing signs of decay and poses a safety risk to the community. Recent high winds and severe weather have increased the urgency to remove this tree.
Please keep a safe distance from any work in the area and obey posted signage.
Where
The tree is located on 116 Street NW, between 89 Ave NW and 91 Ave NW, north of the Remote Control Monitoring System (RCMS) building.
When
Removal is scheduled for August 5 and 6, 2026.
What else
Trees on our campuses are highly valued and the university seeks ways to identify preventative measures and minimize disruption to the trees on our campuses, but there are times when trees are deemed too unhealthy and pose a safety risk to the community. In those instances, removal is required.
Before decisions regarding trees are made, the university works with an external certified arborist to assess the area and identify any preventative measures required to minimize disruption to the tree’s health structures and ecosystem.
