Meet the CHEEP Staff
Jamie Maschmeyer
Program Coordinator/Speech-Language Pathologist
Jamie completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Alberta in 1994, obtaining a Bachelor of Education. She then pursued graduate study at the U of A, receiving a Master of Speech-Language Pathology. Jamie worked in early education in Edmonton and St. Albert between 1996 and 2002. She has found her passion for teaching on a collaborative team compliments her interest in speech and language development in young children. In 2002 Jamie, working with Lu-Anne McFarlane and Colette Strain, founded the Corbett Hall Early Education Program (CHEEP) at the University of Alberta. Since then she has split her time between coordinating the program and working as one of the speech-language pathologists in the classroom
Haley Oliver
Certified Teacher
Haley received her Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta in 2019. She has been working with children of all ages and their families in school settings since then. Prior to becoming a teacher, Haley worked as an Interventionist and Educational Assistant at the Centre for Autism Services Alberta for 3 years. Haley joined the CHEEP team in 2022 as the classroom teacher.
Emilia Stills
Speech Language Pathologist
Emilia grew up in Toronto and completed her undergraduate degree in Montreal, before coming to the University of Alberta and receiving her Masters in Speech Language Pathology in 2019. Her career as an SLP has focused on working with preschool children in daycares and preschools around Edmonton, providing play-based interventions as part of a multidisciplinary team. She joined the CHEEP team in 2026 as the SLP in the morning class, and in her other time works with the UofA's SLP program to support SLP students.
Lynda Thibault
Therapist Assistant
Lynda is the Therapy Assistant in the classroom. Lynda was born in Dawson Creek, BC. She has also lived in Lethbridge, Medicine Hat and Calgary, and moved to Edmonton in January 2013. Lynda received a diploma in Occupational Therapy Assistant from Medicine Hat College. Lynda worked as an OTA at Renfrew Educational Services in Calgary in their Community Services division for 4 years before moving to Edmonton. Lynda has been on our team since 2013.
Sharan de Waal
Occupational Therapist
Sharan is the OT working in the classroom. She grew up in Edmonton and completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Alberta. Sharan graduated with her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Toronto in 2007, and has more than 15 years of experience working in pediatrics. Sharan joined CHEEP in 2025.
Candace Newton
Physical Therapist
Candace is the Physical Therapist (PT) who supports CHEEP one day per week. She completed her Masters of Science (Physical Therapy) at Queen's University and moved from Ontario to Edmonton in 2013. Candace joined the CHEEP team in 2017 and continues to support gross motor development in the classroom. She loves to incorporate functional play when supporting children to build their gross motor skills.
