MES Direct Entry Pathway
Students with a 4-year baccalaureate degree from a recognized university, along with at least two years of full-time teaching experience can enter the MES directly.
Students in the online cohort take ten (10) courses - eight core courses in sequence, and two electives.
Students in the Indigenous Education and Leadership in Métis Education cohorts take ten (10) courses which have been specifically designed for those groups. Click on the cohort below for details.

The course-based Master of Education in Educational Studies (MES) invites you to explore the challenges and opportunities associated with leading educational improvement and develop your research skills, while focusing on and integrating your area(s) of educational interest.
Indigenous Education
The Master of Education in Educational Studies - Indigenous Education supports Indigenous teachers and school leaders who have graduated from the Aboriginal Teacher Education Program (ATEP), and other Indigenous educators. You can be a change advocate, supporting robust learning communities at every level and in every community, enriching a culture of informed practice.
Leadership in Métis Education
The Master of Education in Educational Studies - Leadership in Métis Education supports Métis educators who want to strengthen their leadership practice and advance Métis-led educational improvement in Alberta. In a cohort-based program, participants will build cultural knowledge through foundational learning, land-based experiences, and Michif language, while developing applied leadership skills they can use in schools, districts, and community roles.
