Lab Services Incentive Program (LSIP)
Faculty of Engineering Communications - 26 October 2026
Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA) is launching a multi-year Lab Services Incentive Program (LSIP) designed to improve access to specialized laboratory services for eligible Alberta for-profit small-medium enterprises (SMEs) developing early-stage technologies. Through LSIP, ERA will provide incentives for lab services projects delivered by eligible Alberta-based post-secondary institutions (PSIs) including the University of Alberta.
LSIP builds directly on the results of a one-year pilot delivered in 2025-2026. The University of Alberta was one of the three participating PSIs in the pilot.
LSIP will launch and open intake on October 1, 2026. LSIP is expected to be delivered over a three-year period from October 1, 2026 to September 30, 2029, subject to funding availability.
The program has an annual allocation of $1.5 million and total program funding of $4.5 million. ERA will generally consider complete project submissions in the order received.
The proposed laboratory services must align with at least one LSIP focus area: Enhanced Efficiency, Energy Horizons, Industrial Frontiers, Circular Economy, or Carbon Management.
An approved LSIP project can receive up to 50% of the nominal eligible project cost, up to a maximum LSIP incentive of $50,000 during the 3-year program. Projects with nominal costs greater than $100,000 may be eligible, but ERA’s incentive will be capped at $50,000.
The Centre for Energy and Mineral Processing will lead coordinating the activities and the delivery of the program at the University of Alberta. Please contact the centre’s Program Manager, Shabbir Mustafiz (mustafi1@ualberta.ca) to seek further information and explore opportunities with LSIP.
