We are pleased to invite you to save the date for the third instalment of the Scarborough Charter in Action Conversation Series!
Theme: "The Shift to Access, Community and Belonging: Sustaining Commitment Through Institutional Change"
Speakers: University of Alberta - Access, Community and Belonging
- Carrie Smith, Vice-Provost
- Tim Ira, Portfolio Initiatives Manager
- Shirley Anne Tate, Academic Lead: Race Equity
Building on the momentum and engaging dialogue from this year's Inter-Institutional Forum, the Conversation Series continues to provide a dedicated space for institutional leaders to exchange experiences, share promising practices, and explore emerging issues shaping Black inclusion across Canadian higher education.
This conversation will explore the University of Alberta's transition from an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) framework to an Access, Community and Belonging (ACB) approach, including the institutional considerations that informed this shift. Presenters will share insights into their community engagement process, how institutional feedback shaped decision-making, and the measures being implemented to ensure that a shift in approach does not mean a change in commitment to advancing equitable outcomes for Black students, faculty, staff and broader campus communities.
As always, leaders and institutional representatives will have the opportunity to engage directly with our presenters during the Q&A segment. Members are also invited to send their questions ahead of the session to deirdre.gittens@scarboroughcharter.ca.
