Hope is an action we can take that makes a difference at personal and community levels. Join us for activities designed to foster hope, empathy, resilience and inclusion. This initiative is organized by Days of Action as part of World Day of Social Justice, observed internationally on February 20.
Ways to participate:
Share what hope looks like to you
Feb. 23 | 11:30 - 1:30 | Sperber Library, Cameron Library, Rutherford Atrium, and Students’ Union Building
Share your thoughts on what hopeful action looks like to you by writing or drawing on our life-size sculpture. While you’re at it, snag some free swag at our informational table. Once complete, the sculpture will be on display in Rutherford Atrium from Feb. 28 - March 13.
Participate in the Actions for Hope Workshops
Feb. 25 | 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. | Room 4-02, Students’ Union Building
Join us for workshops on various topics, from practicing self-care to taking action for a more just and equitable world. All workshops will take place on Feb. 25 in room 4-02 of the Students’ Union Building.
Working For Change
10 a.m. - 11 a.m.
Facilitated by the Sexual Assault Centre, participants will engage in an open discussion about sexual violence prevention and consent. Together, we will learn about important definitions, break down common myths and misconceptions, learn how to support survivors of sexual violence, and talk about ways we can work towards prevention in our everyday lives.
Dear Future World: A Zine Making Workshop
12 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Join The Landing for a creative zine-making session where you’ll explore your hopes, commitments and actions for a more just and equitable world that you would like to share with others. All materials provided—no experience needed!
Authoring Hope: Reclaiming the Narrative of Self-Care through Writing
2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m
Join St. Stephen’s College’s The Open Wing Clinic for a writing-practice group designed to explore how individual hope serves as the fuel for collective change. Through guided prompts, contemplative silence and individual writing, we make space for self-care as an act of self-preservation, using the pen to explore personal narratives that fuel individual hope and collective change. You don't need any writing experience or specific style, only a willingness to show up for yourself. This workshop is open to all, and sharing is welcome but optional.
Self Care: A Jack Talk Conversation
4 p.m. - 5 p.m.
Facilitated by jack.org, learn what self-care is, and apply strategies for supporting and strengthening mental health by developing a personalized self-care plan. - Audience
