Traditional Plant Walk with Natalie Pepin (Edmonton)

Learning from the Land:
An Alumni Series

NOTE: The date of this event has changed to August 26.

Embark on an evening exploration and leisurely walk through the Edmonton River Valley with Natalie Pepin, Métis Knowledge Holder, cultural educator and artist. Through this guided walk, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the plants around us, their cultural significance and their potential benefits in our lives.

• Route: Whitemud Ravine trail near Rainbow Park (~3 km).
• Physicality: Participants need to be able to walk at a leisurely pace on unpaved walking trails, with stops, for 2 hours. 

Space is limited. Registration will close when the event reaches capacity or on June 3, 2025.

Natalie Pepin is a Métis cultural educator who works to connect community with teachings about our relationship with the land through classes, camps, and community outreach sessions. She runs Meeting My Ancestors and the Wasakam Indigenous Food Sovereignty Camps in Northern Alberta.

This event is part of the Learning from the Land Series hosted by the Department of Alumni Relations. This series comprises traditional plant walks, river walks and a river cruise at various locations throughout Alberta. Land-based learning recognizes the deep physical, mental and spiritual connection to the land that is part of Indigenous cultures. Join our vibrant alumni community as we learn from the land around us and understand our connection to it.

Note: Keeping in practice with Indigenous ways of learning and knowing, each session will begin with a sharing circle led by the traditional knowledge keeper or elder that is hosting the session. We encourage all registrants to pay close attention to the session descriptions before registering as the physical demand and duration of each session differs depending on the host.
