Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Essentials provides the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to recognize changes in mental health, respond supportively, and apply practical actions during periods of declining mental health or crisis. It helps participants build confidence, reduce stigma, and enhance their own mental health and well-being.
This offering is a new iterative pilot of our previous MHFA program. It includes the same core content, practical strategies, and supportive approach that participants valued in past sessions. However, it is important to note that this version no longer provides formal MHFA Canada certification.
This accessible virtual workshop is delivered in two three-hour segments (9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m.). Participants are expected to attend both segments to benefit from the complete learning experience. The session will be interactive, featuring discussion, practice scenarios, and guided reflection to build skills that can be used immediately in real-world situations.
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
-
Recognize signs of emerging or worsening mental health concerns
-
Respond with supportive, non-judgmental communication
-
Apply practical actions in both challenging and crisis situations
-
Build confidence in offering help while maintaining personal boundaries
-
Reduce stigma and promote a culture of care and compassion in the workplace
This course is ideal for anyone who wants to increase mental health literacy, support others with greater confidence, and contribute to a caring and psychologically safe workplace community.
Details: This offering of MHFA training is virtual. The program will involve some pre-work as well as one-day sessions on the scheduled date.Note: While there is no cost to attend, participants are required to provide a speed code at the time for registration.
