Engineering Incubator
Overview
Developed by the Faculty of Engineering, the Engineering Incubator consists of curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular entrepreneurial resources with a particular emphasis on supporting research commercialization and spin-offs.
All undergraduate and graduate students, researchers, staff and recent University of Alberta alumni (graduated within the last 5 years) from all faculties can access the Engineering Incubator space.

The Engineering Incubator is a state-of-the-art facility that offers a space enabling collaboration, fostering idea generation, cultivating creativity and developing entrepreneurial skills. Many programs include access to successful entrepreneur mentors, structured programming (intellectual property, commercialization readiness, marketing, pilot creation, strategic connections) and funding support.
Application Information
The Engineering Incubator supports students, staff, faculty and alumni from all faculties and departments across campus with two main programs.
The Innovator Program is a venture-oriented program designed to support early-stage technology startups in commercializing their ideas or research. Participants receive focused mentorship from successful founders. Interested in commercializing your research or invention? Submit an application form

Eligibility Requirements
Open to all students of all faculties, including undergraduate and graduate, researchers, faculty and alumni who have graduated in the past five years.
Recognition + Compensation
- The Engineering Incubator opportunities are predominantly non-credit, extra-curricular opportunities, with the exception of related courses within the Faculty of Engineering, for which students receive course credit for completing.
- Select funding opportunities may be available to support Engineering Incubator projects.
- Mentorship and advising opportunities are voluntary roles and are unpaid.
Duration, Format + Location
- Duration, format and location details will vary depending on the program within the Engineering Incubator. For example, some programming is offered in synchronous/asynchronous formats, while others are offered as weekly workshops with accompanying online videos and readings.
- Located on the second floor of the Engineering Teaching & Learning Complex (ETLC), the Engineering Incubator is a flexible workspace with open spaces and private meeting or pitch rooms, designed to accommodate individual work and/or team collaboration.
