Master of Science with Specialization in Molecular Diagnostics (Laboratory Medicine and Pathology)

Why study this program?

The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology provides a program leading to the degree of Master of Science (MSc) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Laboratory Medicine and Pathology.

For thesis based MSc and PhD degrees, research activities may be carried out in the General Program, or in one of three second-level specializations: Molecular Pathology, Analytical and Environmental Toxicology, and Biopreservation. Course and practicum-based MSc programs are also offered.

Program Requirements

This is a course-based program. Students are required to complete a minimum 39 units in graded coursework, including two 3-unit clinical practicums and a 6-unit capstone research project.

Seminar Requirement

Students must attend specified seminars and make one or more oral presentations as specified.

Ethics Requirement

Course-based students in the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology must meet the GPS Ethics and Academic Citizenship Requirement through the completion of INT D 710 (for both master’s and doctoral students) by the end of the first term of registration in their degree program.

Professional Development Requirement

Students in the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology must satisfy the GPS Professional Development Requirement .

Length of Program

The course-based MSc with Specialization in Molecular Diagnostics is normally a two-year full-time program or a four-year part-time program.
