Casper
Most applicants applying to Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs at the University of Alberta are required to complete the Casper test as part of their application. The Casper test is a 100- to 120-minute online, open-response situational judgment test.
It is a standardized online assessment of non-cognitive skills, interpersonal characteristics and personal values and priorities that we believe are important for successful students and graduates of our program. The Casper test will complement the other factors that we use for applicant review and evaluation, including equity-based review of applications.
Students in the Bilingual Program have the option to take the test in either French or English.
Self-Declared First Nations, Métis and Inuit applicants are not required to submit a Casper score to be eligible for admission.
Successful completion of Casper is mandatory for most applicants in order to be eligible for admission. An applicant's Casper score is a selection factor that is considered in the admission decision process.
Applicants must first submit their application to the university, then register for the Casper Assessment. Access AcuityInsights.app to create an account and for more information on important dates and requirements. Note: the Duet assessment is not required to apply to the Nursing program.
Casper test results are sent directly to the University of Alberta from Acuity Insights . Applicants with incomplete or missing Casper scores will not be considered for admission. Applicants to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing — Bilingual Program may complete the Casper test in either French or English.
Casper tests are only valid for one year and must be completed each year an applicant applies. Applicants may only write the Casper test once per year, so those who have already taken the test in previous years will need to retake it.
NOTE: The earlier that Casper scores are submitted, the earlier the university can make an admissions decision on the University of Alberta application.
