Counselling & psychological assessment (by graduate psychology students)

The Faculty of Education's Clinical Services provides non-emergency counselling and psychological assessments for all age groups, including the university and the general public. Treatments are provided by graduate psychology students as part of their training under the supervision of faculty, and are available strictly by appointment, with self-referral options. Fees are substantially lower than professional rates.

To self-refer to counselling or psychological assessments, complete the appropriate Referral Form on the website.

May/June/August: Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Services are not normally available during the spring and summer terms.

What to Expect

  • Cases outside the students' training scope will be redirected to a better-suited professional or agency.
  • Providers adhere strictly to confidentiality guidelines set by the College of Alberta Psychologists and the Canadian Psychological Association.
  • For child clients, consent from all legal guardians or parents is mandatory.

Cost

Fees apply; see webpage. Sliding scale fees are available for clients facing significant financial barriers.

Special Conditions

As services are provided by Student Clinicians, note that many insurance providers do not include coverage for services provided by student clinicians. The name and license number of the supervising Psychologist will only be provided for assessment services, not counselling services. Itemized receipts are available. Direct billing to third parties is not offered.
