Safewalk program

Service offered by U of A Students' Union (UASU)

Safewalk is a free, volunteer-run walking service that provides a safe alternative to walking alone at night. Two trained volunteers will walk with you anywhere on campus or within 20 minutes of select LRT stations. Incognito walks are available on request.

  • One-time walks on demand
  • Recurring weekly walks
  • Event drop-in support for student groups
  • Incognito (low-key) walks without visible vests
  • Friendly, non-judgmental volunteer escorts

How to Access

  • Call 780-4-WALKME (780-492-5563).
  • Use the online booking form if phones are not yet active: Safewalk Walk Request.
  • Approach a Safewalk patrol team on campus.
  • Submit a form in advance for recurring walks or event drop-ins.

Hours of Operation
Monday - Friday: 7 p.m. - 12 a.m. (midnight)

What to Expect

Safewalk provides timely, respectful, and reliable walking support during operating hours. Walks depend on volunteer availability and weather conditions. Volunteers prioritize safety, comfort, and clear communication.
