Austrian and Central European Library Collection

The University of Alberta’s Austrian and Central European Library Collection is Canada’s foremost resource for Austrian, Habsburg, and Central European studies, and one of the top five collections of its kind in North America. It includes the historic Priesterseminar library of the Archbishop of Salzburg and Vienna’s Juridisch-Politischer Leseverein library, along with Canada’s largest university map collection featuring rare Central European maps.

Rudolf Vrba Holocaust Reading Room

Established in 2015, the Rudolf Vrba Holocaust Reading Room serves as a vital resource for students, staff, and visitors engaged in Holocaust studies. Named in honour of survivor Rudolf Vrba and made possible through the generosity of Dr. William Pearce and Jarka Sedlacek, it houses over 250 scholarly volumes, manuscripts, films, and archival materials. The Reading Room also features a detailed Holocaust map created by cartographer Michael Fisher, commissioned by the Wirth Institute to support ongoing study and research.
