Commuter Study Hostel

The University of Alberta is pleased to offer commuter students the option of short-term accommodations on campus during the academic year. The commuter study hostel is an opportunity for students who don't live near campus to have a safe, convenient and affordable place to stay if they have an early exam or want to stay late to work on a project.

LOCATION

The commuter study hostel rooms are all located in Schäffer Hall is conveniently connected to Lister Centre, located on 87 Avenue and 116 Street.

ROOMS

Schäffer Hall offers bright and comfortable rooms with private washrooms. Each room features windows that open, black-out blinds and a work desk. Students staying in the study hostel will also have access to a shared lounge and kitchen.

RATES

$35 single occupancy.

Payment can be made by debit, credit or cash.
All guests must be familiar with and agree to abide by our Community Standards.

  • Bedrooms only accommodate one student.
  • Bed linens and towels, small bar of soap & cup
  • High-speed internet access (UWS)
  • Refrigerator, sink and microwaves (in shared kitchen)
  • Cable television (in shared lounge)
  • Free local calls (using telephones in shared lounge)
  • Laundry machine access (fee applies)

Booking and Additional Requirements

Guests can book maximum of 3 nights in a row, 9 nights total in a month. Only on-line booking requests will be accepted. Same day bookings accepted before 5:00p.m.

A room key will be issued and must be returned at checkout or a fee of $150+tax will be charged to your student account.

Our staff will review your request based on room availability. Bookings are not confirmed until a confirmation is sent. Once your booking is confirmed, we will provide relevant information for your stay.

Please note: you will be required to present your credit card, government issued photo ID and your ONEcard at check-in.  Must check-in before 10:30p.m.

Check-in: after 4:00p.m.

Check-out: 11:00a.m.

CANCELLATIONS

If you would like to adjust or cancel your reservation, we require 48 hours notice prior to your date of arrival. Reservations cancelled within 48 hours of arrival are subject to a fee (first night's stay including applicable taxes). Cancellations can be made by contacting Guest Services by phone at 780-492-6056 or by emailing guest.services@ualberta.ca.

LIMITATIONS

  • Occupancy of commuter study hostel rooms is restricted to current UAlberta students.

  • You may book a room for a maximum of 3 consecutive nights and/or 9 nights per month.
