On Monday, March 16, all in-person, online and alternate delivery classes and exams are suspended for one day to allow time for preparation for all in-person instruction to move to remote delivery. Plans for clinical programs in the health sciences will be made by the Deans of each Faculty taking into consideration the specific requirements of individual programs.

Remote Delivery of Winter 2020 Classes, Effective Tuesday, March 17

Effective Tuesday, March 17, all in-person courses will move to remote delivery for the remainder of the Winter 2020 term. All other online or alternate delivery courses will also resume for the remainder of the term.

For any synchronous (realtime) delivery of course content, such as live streaming a lecture or group discussion, the expectation is that this will continue to occur through the alternate delivery format at the same time as your in-person class was scheduled, unless instructors have made alternate arrangements and communicated those arrangements to the students in the class. Instructors will communicate with students about the details of your remote learning format which may result in the asynchronous (not real time) delivery of course material.

This section updated March 15, 9:00 p.m..

Please note: There is an important change to previous communications. As per the direction of the Chief Medical Officer of Health, NO in-person classes of any size can occur. There is no longer any possibility of an exception to remote delivery. Contact your Dean for more information if you previously expected an exception.

Alternate Delivery of Final Exams for Winter 2020

The decision has also been made that no final exams for Winter 2020 will be conducted in person. Exams will instead be delivered in alternate formats. More information on this will be available soon.

Graduate Students

Final oral exams and candidacy exams for thesis-based graduate programs will follow modified guidelines as outlined by the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research. Please contact FGSR for details.

Supporting Official Accommodations for Students

  • The University of Alberta is working to address students who are impacted by existing exam suspensions, and potential changes in exam delivery moving forward. We’re in the process of resolving how deadlines for the registration of exams in ClockWork will be managed.
  • The assignment and modification of accommodations will continue to be coordinated through the Academic Success Centre.
  • We appreciate that this is not an easy time for our students and will provide additional information as soon as possible. We are committed to supporting students with any necessary accommodations. Please contact the Academic Success Centre for any necessary support at success@ualberta.ca.
