The Department of Surgery has won the International Association of Business Communicators Award for Communications Research. The project analyzes how to increase surgical research output by applying communications.

Nick Wilson, Team Lead and Surgery Department Communications Coordinator says, “The methodology, which includes establishing baselines and quantitative and qualitative analysis, can be applied to increase the output of any research institute.”

The team then supports the practical application of the research. Prof. Colin Anderson says, “The communications team has created the ideal 'one stop shop’ for information on all things related to surgical research, greatly facilitating research and collaborations within the department and beyond.”

The multi-disciplinary Surgical Research Communications Team that initiated and manages the project is comprised of students and staff from different faculties and departments, each bringing their own skill sets to the table. They are now researching how communications and leadership styles impact the motivation of surgical researchers.
