The ANAT 400 course in Human Embryonic Development (Course Coordinator: Dr. Jennifer Hocking) included an optional community service-learning (CSL) component this year. Ten students completed placements with the Edmonton Down Syndrome Society (EDSS) and Elves Special Needs Society. The Department of Surgery thanks our community partners, Janet Tryhuba, Julie Boucher, and Amanda Dobler at EDSS and Kiera Miedinger at Elves for their enthusiastic mentorship of the students.

Projects and students who went above and beyond with their efforts:
Creation of an EDSS brochure in English and Arabic (Noor Abdel Wahab) Support and video creation for the EDSS musical theatre group (Barrett Groves) Development of an EDSS musical therapy program (Maryam Khandani, Sam Thorson) Update of the Downright Lucky Manual (Caitlin Schultz) EDSS Social Media Project (Simone Eeles) Organizing and fundraising for the Elves 50th anniversary celebration (Churchill Wang, Thando Nkala, Zorica Nakevska, Fares Albakafani) We also thank the CSL team in the Faculty of Arts for coordinating the placements and making such enriching experiences possible.
