The Office of Global Surgery helps develop health care systems in communities that are under-serviced in Alberta and around the world. We foster global partnerships to assist in developing healthcare systems, surgical access and care, and academic initiatives.

Kendell Pon (photo) says of her experience as a fellow in Acute Care General Surgery and Global Surgery: "I was excited to discover this combined fellowship that highlights both areas in which I hoped to gain further experience. This fall, I was fortunate to spend two months in Eldoret, Kenya, at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital working with a general surgery team in elective and acute care surgery. Learning about the medical system and equitable access to care, student and resident training, and ethical considerations in global surgery was a valuable experience that will help inform how I approach global surgery in the future. While my plans for next year are yet undecided, I am grateful for this opportunity which has deepened my appreciation of the importance of sustainable global surgery practices, both locally and abroad."
