Markéta Jakešová, PhD candidate in philosophy, Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic & University of Toulouse - Jean Jaurès, France

I am a PhD candidate in philosophy at the Faculty of Humanities, Charles University in Prague and at the University of Toulouse - Jean Jaurès through the cotutelle agreement (joint doctoral degree). My main research project consists in combining Maurice Merleau-Ponty's phenomenology of with Actor-Network Theory, perceived from the position of a body or an embodied subject. Other research topics include German Media Theory, philosophies of Walter Benjamin and Jean-Luc Nancy, Japanese phenomenology, science and technology studies, cyborg anthropology, feminist and decolonial philosophy and anthropology, and Kantian aesthetics.

Since I did my masters in religious studies and comparative literature at the Faculty of Arts at Charles University with the main focus on Austrian literature, my goal for my stay at the University of Alberta is to draw inspiration from concrete literary analyses and incorporate them into my doctoral research. So far I wrote four academic articles, went to four conferences, and participated in many workshops all over Europe. I did research stays in Vienna, Toulouse, and Cologne. I occasionally write for progressive and/or literary magazines, also I edit and proofread books in Czech.

I also like to spend time running, climbing, watching movies, taking photos with analog cameras, and tasting special foods.
My main long term goals are a research stay in Japan, preferably Osaka University, and going on an extended and intense running trip: possibly the Camino de Santiago.
