About Cascade at the U of A

Cascade CMS is an enterprise Web Content Management System that allows users to create and manage content across multiple sites and channels.

Unlike Sitecore, Cascade is more of a publishing engine.

With Sitecore, the CMS application was used in both the content authoring and content delivery environments.

Cascade CMS runs the application on the Content Management environement, while published content does not require the CMS application to be installed. At the U of A, content delivery will be in the form of flat HTML files when published.

Because of this set up, public facing websites can be delivered through a more robust content delievery network using Amazon Cloudfront. Additionally, any technical issues or outages with the Cascade CMS do not impact content delivery.
