Alberta’s chief medical officer of health has confirmed the province’s second presumptive case of COVID-19. This new case is located in the Edmonton Zone. The risk of contracting the virus in Alberta remains low, however Alberta Health Services is expanding its testing protocol effective immediately and is also recommending the following new preventative measures:
- All travellers returning to Alberta from outside of Canada are advised to monitor their symptoms.
- If returning travellers experience flu-related symptoms, such as a fever or a cough, they should self-isolate and call Health Link at 8-1-1 to arrange followup testing.
- Travellers returning to Alberta from outside Canada should NOT visit emergency departments or urgent care centres for testing. They should call Health Link at 8-1-1 for quick assessment and testing. This applies only to returning travellers who are symptomatic with fever, or cough.
For more information, see the Government of Alberta update.
To do your part, please continue to follow the recommended preventative health and wellness measures. The university is monitoring and following the advice of relevant public health and travel authorities during the evolving COVID-19 situation. We are ready to react quickly to maintain the health and wellness of our community.
