Province-wide heath restrictions & U of A impacts

This week the Government of Alberta announced stronger, province-wide public health restrictions. Almost all U of A campus services and community activities have been impacted in some way. If you haven’t yet, be sure to read the updates from earlier this week to learn the changes to work on campus, university retail spaces, dining spaces, campus recreation, and indoor and outdoor gatherings.

Temporary on-campus research ramp down, Dec 14, 2020 - Jan 11, 2021

Based on the current public health crisis and new provincial restrictions, the Public Health Response Team has made the difficult decision to temporarily ramp down on-campus research from Dec. 14, 2020 to Jan. 11, 2021. Our on-campus research teams are currently hard at work preserving, relocating, or deactivating their research safely. Exceptions to this temporary university-wide ramp down are very limited. Is studying a ‘social gathering’?

Yes, studying in a group is considered a social gathering — and both indoor and outdoor gatherings are not permitted anywhere in Alberta right now. This exam period students should choose virtual study groups instead. A few tips for virtually connecting from the YouAlberta team:

Library Curbside Pickup extended winter break closure

Curbside Pickup will be closed beginning Dec. 12 with plans to reopen Jan. 13, pending provincial guidelines. As a critical service for exams, the Cameron Library Building study space will remain open. Advanced booking continues to be required for an individual seat. Visit the Library website for more detailed information. Augustana Library Curbside Pickup Service will also close as of Dec 11.

HR support is only one click or call away

This week’s reductions to work on campus may prompt some additional or new HR considerations for supervisors and managers. Your HR partners are available to support you with guidance and advice.
