Return to campus Feb. 28

On Feb. 28 courses that were originally scheduled to be in-person for the Winter 2022 semester will resume in-person. Employees who are required to work in-person to ensure operational delivery have been notified and will also return to campus. Read more details about the safe return to campus plan. The university's Safety Measures General Directives will continue to be updated as we phase more members of the community back to our campuses.

Potential travel directive update

The Government of Canada has indicated that the current Global Affairs Canada level 3 travel advisory will be removed effective February 28. If removed, the U of A will suspend the travel directive and return to assessing and approving travel as outlined in the Off Campus Activity and Travel Policy (OCATP). Travellers will still need to assess travel risk for a range of issues from security to COVID. Check the travel directive website for updated information next week.

New procedures for sick students and employees

If you have had any of these symptoms during the past five days, stay home and do not go to a university property. If you develop any of these symptoms while at work, go home right away (travel safely: wear your mask; wash your hands; practice proper distancing):

As soon as you can, do the COVID-19 Assessment for Albertans and:

  1. Follow any instructions provided by the assessment
  2. If you're required to isolate or have received a positive PCR or Rapid Antigen test, please advise your supervisor or instructor immediately and fill out the COVID-19 Triage self-report form on the MyUAlberta app or the website for the appropriate campus:

Library re-opening

U of A Library will start opening library locations on February 28. Course materials, access to the physical collection, library stacks and onsite services will be available. Visit the U of A Library website for more reopening details.

FAQs for students about returning to campus

Courses previously scheduled to be in person will return to in person learning on February 28. Students are encouraged to review these FAQs in advance of the return to in person learning.

Anticipating changes to provincial restrictions

On Saturday, Feb. 26, the government will announce a final decision about proceeding to Step 2 of their plan to lift almost all restrictions on March 1. The U of A will proceed with its return to campus plan on February 28 which includes continued masking and the suspension of the vaccination directive and CampusReady program. Any updates in response to Saturday's announcement will be communicated with the U of A community next week.

Please continue to check your U of A inbox and uab.ca/covid19 for updates. The next regular COVID-19 update is scheduled for March 11.
