Expertise, content, and outcomes are about what matters most for students to learn and the knowledge, perspectives, and disciplinary understandings that shape a course. They also involve considering where the course fits within a program, what students are likely to bring, and what they should be prepared to do next.

Being clear about the intended learning helps instructors decide what deserves emphasis, what knowledge and perspectives are represented, and what students should know, understand, or be able to do by the end of the course. That clarity carries forward into course design.
