Transform your ability to support yourself and others with our free mental health and wellness workshops, designed to advance your growth and strengthen our community.
In addition to registering for our monthly workshops, students, staff and faculty at the University of Alberta can request any of our workshops for a group of 10 or more. Submit your request for a workshop through our form and a team member will respond within two business days.
Consultation for Supporters
We provide consultation to U of A students, staff and faculty who are supporting students by:
- Increasing awareness and navigation of on and off campus resources
- Developing and enhancing support strategies
- Strengthening confidence in supporter role
- Decreasing supporter distress

Community Helpers
Transforms everyday interactions into lifelines by learning to recognize when others are struggling and respond with confidence and compassion. The Community Helpers Program provides you with tools to assist individuals facing mental health issues. You'll gain invaluable life skills, deepen your understanding of mental health challenges and discover a comprehensive toolkit of on-campus and community resources.

How to Have a Supportive Conversation
This intensive three-hour workshop guides you through the six SUPPORT steps, equipping you as a skilled listener. Learn to approach difficult conversations with confidence, create safe spaces for vulnerable sharing and connect people with the right help at the right time. Participants receive a certificate upon completion.

Suicide Prevention
Saving lives starts with recognizing the signs. Our two-hour Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) certification equips you with the critical skills to identify when someone may be contemplating suicide and take supportive action.

Alcohol and Substance Use
This workshop explores alcohol and substance use and examines the powerful influence of social norms on decision-making. Through discussions and real-world scenarios, you'll develop an understanding of harm-reduction principles and learn practical peer-protection strategies to make campus environments safer and more inclusive for everyone.
Indigenous Student Wellness
This workshop offers strategies for Indigenous students to practice self-care and mindfulness, manage stress, establish boundaries and access community resources, all from an Indigenous perspective. The content is fully adaptable and can be customized across a wide range of topics to address the unique needs of each participant group.
Suicide Prevention: Indigenous Focus
This Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) suicide prevention training is delivered through an Indigenous lens to ensure cultural relevance and safety. This training is suitable for Indigenous participants or for those who support Indigenous community members.
Supporting People in Distress
When a crisis strikes, be ready. Building on the proven Community Helpers SUPPORT model, this essential workshop sharpens your ability to spot distress signals, employ powerful active-listening techniques and deploy de-escalation strategies to defuse tense situations. Build confidence in the art of resource navigation, ensuring that when someone needs help, you know exactly how to connect them with appropriate support, quickly and effectively.
Trauma-Informed Support
This advanced workshop teaches you to create healing connections that honour each person's unique experience and resilience. By integrating Trauma-Informed Principles with the Community Helper SUPPORT model, you'll learn to approach interactions with sensitivity, respect and understanding, transforming how you connect with others in both professional and personal settings.
Prerequisites for this workshop: completion of Supportive Conversations, Community Helpers Program, or Supporting People in Distress. If you have similar training or relevant experience, connect with our team to discuss how your background may meet these prerequisites.
