Degrees and Programs
If you already have an undergraduate degree from an accredited university and want to take your education to the next level, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Alberta is where you want to be. Master of Science (MSc)
The research-intensive MSc program requires a minimum of 15 units of coursework (five courses) and a thesis. Students must complete at least two consecutive four-month terms of full-time attendance on campus.
Master of Engineering (MEng)
The MEng degree is a course-based program. Students are required to complete a minimum of 24 units (eight courses) in coursework and a capstone project.
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
The PhD in electrical and computer engineering degree emphasizes research and culminates in a high-quality thesis. Applicants typically enrol in the Master of Science (MSc) program before transferring to the PhD program. Students must typically take 18 units of coursework (6 courses). If transferring from the MSc, the coursework is determined on a case-by-case basis.
Master of Science in Internetworking (MINT)
The MINT graduate program prepares students for a career as a network engineer. The two-year, fully accredited, course-based program is led by industry leaders and jointly offered by the Faculty of Science through the Department of Computing Science.
Master of Business/Master of Engineering (MBA/MEng)
Designed for those with an undergraduate degree in engineering, the combined MBA/MEng program equips students with the skills to take a leadership role in business. Inquiries and applications for this program are made directly through the Alberta School of Business.
