CONNECTIONS: Where Neuroscience Meets Art

Launched in 2021 by the NMHI in collaboration with the Faculty of Arts at the University of Alberta, CONNECTIONS explores the relationship between art, neuroscience, brain diseases and mental health in a creative and captivating way. The project highlights the intricate links among brain cells, the connections lost due to brain diseases and mental health disorders, and the hope for recovery. Artists, scientists and individuals with lived experience have all contributed, blending creativity with scientific insight.

As a multi-disciplinary research and teaching institute, NMHI is home to over 170 scientists and clinicians dedicated to understanding how the nervous system works, uncovering the causes of brain and mental health disorders, developing new treatments and advancing clinical care.

NMHI believes in the power of collaboration. True progress requires everyone – neuroscientists, patients, caregivers and clinicians – working together to understand, empathize and promote connections that advance science and improve the lives of those affected by neurological and mental health conditions.

The CONNECTIONS project will help to support research at the NMHI.
