About
The History Room is the result of dedicated faculty members and graduates who are passionate about preserving the history of nursing education at the University of Alberta.
The mission of the Faculty of Nursing History Room is to honour and preserve the legacy of nursing education at the University of Alberta Hospital School of Nursing and the University of Alberta Faculty of Nursing, and bring history to life through a curated collection of significant artifacts and historical documents. It is a place where nursing students, faculty, staff and grads can research and reflect on the history of the faculty, the important role it plays in nursing education, the profession and our communities.
Donation of items
Thank you for your generosity and interest in supporting the Faculty of Nursing. The collection in the Nursing History Room is guided by the University of Alberta Museums and Collections Policy , and as such, the faculty is committed to the care and preservation of every artifact. Our ability to accept new artifacts is limited by the costs associated with long-term care, including specialized storage, conservation and detailed documentation.
Currently accepting:
- University of Alberta Hospital School of Nursing “Forever White” yearbooks: 1954, 1955, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1965, 1967, 1968, 1969
- University of Alberta Faculty of Nursing “The Circle Game” yearbooks: 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1983
- Nursing student uniforms from 1980 - 2000
- Nursing student uniform shoes, all years
Not able to accept:
- “Evergreen and Gold” U of A yearbooks
- Nursing student uniforms, including wool capes and pins, prior to 1980
- Class notes
- Textbooks (unless written by a University of Alberta faculty member)
- Photos (unless showing nursing student life on campus or at the University of Alberta Hospital)
- Dolls in nursing uniforms
