National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women Dec. 6th

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

December 6th is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. This day, also known as White Ribbon Day, commemorates the anniversary of the 1989 École Polytechnique de Montréal massacre, where 14 women were murdered and many others were injured.

It is important we acknowledge that this tragic mass shooting was because of gender-based hatred, which continues to threaten the safety of women, girls, LGBTQI2S+, gender-diverse, and racialized individuals around the world. On December 6th, some ways we can honour the victims and survivors of the tragedy is to wear a white ribbon, observe a moment of silence at 11:00 a.m., and actively support those affected by gender-based violence. We should also reflect on, and renew, our commitment to do everything we can to build a safer, more inclusive environment for all members of our community.
