Transitions

Six students standing together and smiling

The transition to graduate school can be exciting, scary and overwhelming. There is no one who can understand how you might be feeling quite like another student who has gone through it before you.

The School of Public Health is committed to assisting new students as they transition into their graduate programs. We know that students will be more successful if they are prepared. As a result, we are pleased to offer Transitions, an incoming student transition program.

Current students

Current students will be paired with an incoming student(s) based on similar specifications or interests. Current students will help orient and inform incoming students by answering any questions they may have.

Incoming students

As you transition to graduate school, and in some cases a new city, it is normal to have questions. What is the transit system like? How do you balance school work and personal life? What are some fun things to do in Edmonton? Our current students have been there, and they serve as great resources for any question you might have.

Further information and a link to sign up will be provided in late July 2024.

Please note: Current student volunteers are not permitted to advise an incoming student on their academic path. All questions of this nature should be directed to staff in the Office of Educational Programs.

What students say about the program

Having someone to talk and ask questions to before coming to the School was an invaluable resource for me. I had an extremely positive experience with this program.

My pairing was awesome and helped me out more than just information. They helped me connect with people in the city, and made sure I was settling in well.

I think this is a really useful program. I was able to answer very specific questions for new students as they made a very onerous transition.
