This is Public Health™ Lecture Series
The This is Public Health™ Lecture Series invites you to explore the issues that shape the health of communities — locally and globally. Each lecture highlights the work of SPH researchers, partners and practitioners who are addressing complex challenges such as water safety, climate change, healthy environments, addiction, equity and public health systems.
What is public health? It’s the health system that cares for you. It’s sustainable water and sanitation systems. It’s policies that support healthy living. It’s harm reduction that saves lives. And so much more.
Join us throughout the year for free public lectures designed to deepen understanding, inspire action and strengthen connections across the public health community.

Douglas R. Wilson Lecture
Named in honour of Douglas R. Wilson — former dean of the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry and senior advisor to the School of Public Health — this annual signature lecture brings a distinguished external speaker to campus to discuss an urgent or emerging public health topic.
Open to students, alumni, faculty, community partners and the public, the lecture fosters learning, reflection and collective action on the issues shaping population health today.

Public Health Innovation Showcase
Hosted annually each spring, the Public Health Innovation Showcase highlights student leadership, creativity and problem‑solving. Through case studies, presentations, and interactive sessions, students share innovative approaches to current public health challenges.
This event supports transformational learning by connecting students with adjuncts, alumni and practitioners who offer mentorship, feedback and real-world insight.

Alumni and Adjunct Engagement Event
This annual gathering brings together alumni, adjunct faculty and SPH faculty to build relationships, share expertise and identify opportunities for meaningful involvement. Participants learn about SPH priorities, areas of excellence and pathways to contribute through teaching, mentorship, workshops and student engagement.

Student Career and Networking Event
Led by the SPH Student AssociationDesigned and delivered by SPHSA, this event connects students with alumni, adjuncts and public health professionals for meaningful conversations about career paths, workplace skills and emerging opportunities across the field.
SPH supports the event with promotion and a modest budget, ensuring students have a strong platform for networking and career exploration.

Several professional development and skills workshops are available to various groups of students, staff and faculty in the School of Public Health. These workshops are in addition to program curriculum. They include the Field Practicum and Capping Course Sessions, Career Management and Job Search Strategies Series, Skills Workshops and more.
