Apply for Residence

First-year and upper-year residence applications are now open.

Browse through our wide variety of residence buildings.

Before you apply, check out our residences and unit types to find the building that meets your needs. Please also read our cancellation policy and electronic communications policy.

You can apply as early as October 1 the year prior to you attending university.

Application process

Step 1

Get your CCID

A Campus Computing ID (CCID) is the main way to access an abundance of campus resources, including applying to residence. To get one, you must first apply to a program. You will receive a CCID within 72 hours of applying (you do not need to be accepted or conditionally accepted to get a CCID).

Step 2

Submit your application and pay the fee

Log into your residence account using your CCID and fill out the application form. Pay the $25 non-refundable application fee by credit card and submit. Please fill out your application accurately and completely to ensure it gets processed and a spot is held for you in residence.

Step 3

Confirm your space

In late spring, Residence Services begins the process of assigning rooms. Check your U of A email regularly for a room offer and accept it by completing the confirmation contract linked in the email. At this point, you will need to pay a $500 residence deposit, which goes toward your first month rent.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How can I change or cancel my application?

To change your application, simply email housing@ualberta.ca from your U of A email address. Please note that this will change the submission date on your application to when the change request was made.

To cancel your application, please refer to our cancellation policy.

How do I make arrangements for special accommodation?

Contact the Academic Success Centre if you have a medical condition that affects your mobility, vision, hearing, learning or physical or mental health, or experience a non-medical restriction that affects your ability to participate in your academics or campus life. This is also where you can request accommodation for a service or support animal (this can take 1–2 months to process, so apply as early as possible).

Contact housing@ualberta.ca for gender-inclusive housing or any other special requirements before you submit an application.

We strive to accommodate special needs and concerns to the best of our ability. Learn more about Inclusion and Accommodations.

How can I pick my own roommate?

To pick your own roommate, you need to submit a roommate request. It is recommended to apply at the same time as your preferred roommate(s) to help ensure you’re assigned together.

  1. In the residence application, choose the same preferred residence building and unit type as your roommate(s)
  2. Log in to your residence account to complete the Roommate Requests and Questionnaire, which can be found on the homepage in the online forms for the semester you applied to. You must:
    • Include your requested roommate(s) 7-digit U of A ID number
    • Ensure the roommate(s) you request also request you in their questionnaire

To make changes to your roommate request or your roommate questionnaire after you’ve submitted your application, email housing@ualberta.ca.

Students living in HUB, Nîpisîy House, Pinecrest House or Tamarack House can guarantee their roommate selection if they all apply by February 15.

If you would like to live with your partner, there are one-bedroom apartments in HUB available. Contact housing@ualberta.ca for more information.
