Events
SLIS participates in or hosts numerous events throughout the year. Student events, as well as important dates and deadlines, are available via the calendar below. A complete list of major university dates and deadlines is available on the University Calendar.

Convocation
The University of Alberta holds three convocations each year: Winter Convocation in March, Spring Convocation in June and Fall Convocation in November.
Convocation is the formal process where your degree is conferred. Students must complete their degree requirements and apply for convocation by the dates indicated in the Academic Calendar.
Convocation ceremonies are administered by the Office of the Registrar. Convocation events may also be held at the faculty-level.
Orientation
MLIS graduate students typically have two orientation events: an orientation event held by the Faculty of Education and an orientation event for new and current MLIS students hosted by SLIS.
The School hosts an orientation event for new and current MLIS students shortly before the beginning of Fall term. This is an online event, and both on-campus and online students can attend. Students will be notified of the orientation event via the SLIS student listservs.
Students may also participate in other orientation events, such as those organized by the Graduate Students' Association.
