Data Sovereignty Declaration
This Data Sovereignty Declaration and Care Taking Directives document outlines how research participants retain full ownership, intellectual property rights, and decision-making authority over the digital recordings of their visiting. It provides a structured way for participants to identify a data caretaker, determine who may access their recordings, specify where and how the recordings are stored, and set conditions for use, preservation, and sharing across time—including for future generations. Grounded in principles of Indigenous data sovereignty, the document ensures that participants’ voices, stories, and knowledge are respected, protected, and managed according to their wishes, with clear guidance for researchers and third parties to uphold these directives now and in perpetuity.
